Definitions

The S&P 1500, or S&P 1500 Composite Index, is a stock market index of US stocks made by Standard & Poor's. It includes all stocks in the S&P 500, S&P 400, and S&P 600.

Alpha: A measure of performance on a risk-adjusted basis. Alpha takes the volatility (price risk) of a mutual fund and compares its risk-adjusted performance to a benchmark index. The excess return of the fund relative to the return of the benchmark index is a fund's alpha.

Beta: A measure of the volatility, or systematic risk, of a security or a portfolio in comparison to the market as a whole. Beta is used in the capital asset pricing model (CAPM), a model that calculates the expected return of an asset based on its beta and expected market returns.

Standard Deviation: A measure of the dispersion of a set of data from its mean. The more spread apart the data, the higher the deviation. Standard deviation is calculated as the square root of variance.

S&P 400: This Standard & Poor's Index measures the stock performance of mid-sized companies in the U.S. stock market. The index includes 400 companies spread across many industries.

S&P 600: The S&P SmallCap 600 Index consists of 600 small-cap stocks. The Index invests in a basket of small-cap equities.
